Ishikawa Hidemi was born on July 13, 1966 (hey Akina's birthday, but one year later!) in Chiba, Japan. She played basketball in middle school and in high school tried out for an audition for a program for young performers held by famous musician Saijou Hideki. While trying out for the program she took singing lessons and quickly became the star in the eyes of Hideki himself, thus winning the competition. She debuted in 1982 with her single "Yousei jidai" and won a rookie award for it, this year also produced many other idols such as Nakamori Akina, Koizumi Kyouko, Hori Chiemi, Matsumoto Iyo, and Hayami Yuu, Hidemi had a long road ahead of her with all these idols as competition. Her looks are a lot different from other Japanese girls, and seem a bit exotic with her cute dimples. She maintained a good bit of top 40 hits for her first few singles, but finally broke the top ten with her single "Hey! Mister Policeman" from then on she kept a steady stream of top tens. Unfortunately she never made a number one hit, but she still had many fans and had moderate music sales. She decided to retire in 1990 to get married and raise a family (pretty common end to an idol story.) Her most famous singles are "Yurete shounan", "Motto sekkin shimasho", "Mystery Woman", and "Ai no jumon"
