Hayami Yuu was born on September 2, 1966 in Shizuoka, Japan. When she was 3 she moved to Guam with her family, then when she was 7 they moved to Hawaii, finally when she turned 14 they moved back to Japan. From a young age Yuu was around music constantly as her father was a jazz musician. Yuu is an idol quite unlike any other in her doubly ethnic backgrounds of being Japanese and American, as many idols use English words in their songs, but pronounce them horribly, Yuu could pronounce the English with ease. She was signed to the Sun Music company (same as Okada Yukiko, Matsuda Seiko, and Sakai Noriko) in 1982, and released her first single "Isoide! Hatsukoi" in April of that year. Yuu never reached the number one spot, but her numerous top ten singles were widely used in many commercials. In 1992 Yuu acted as a representative of Japan as an artist ambassador at the Earth Summit held in Brazil. She has a widely read blog and hosts a radio program of her own with an approach to the youth which focuses on environmental issues. She is also part of the Keep Smiling corporation along with smalltime idol Kousaka Miyuki, in which they host event talkshows and distribute a cultural magazine. She now is married and has two daughters. Some of her top hits include: "Natsu iro no Nancy", "Lucky Lips", "Yuuwaku kousen kura-!", and "PASSION."
