Koizumi Kyouko was born on February 4, 1966 in Kanagawa, Japan. Unfortunately there's not a lot of information about her before becoming an idol, so we'll just start with her idol period. In 1981, Kyouko auditioned for the Star Tanjo program (as many idols did) singing Idol Ishino Mako's "Kare ga hatsukoi," I'm not sure what place she got, but she didn't win though, because Idol Nakamori Akina won 1981's Star Tanjou. However, Kyouko did receive a recording contract with Victor Entertainment (just like Akina) and debuted with her first single "Watashi no 16sai" in March of 1982. Its reception was decent on the charts as not every idol enters on the number one spot (very few actually do), her company marketed her as the cute girl-next-door, very feminine and adorable. Her releases after were closing in and received better spots on the charts until she finally broke the top 10 with her 4th single. She was then marked as a formidable idol and in the rankings of the top two at that time Nakamori Akina and Matsuda Seiko, they became the top 3 idols of the early 80s, but strangely did not receive a group name for it (like most do.) Being of a high quality status, Kyon-kyon (as she is called by her fans) began to regularly star on dramas and do all those other fun things idols do, modeling, and commercials (her most famous ones are her advertisements for cup soups.). Her 8th single for some reason she released under the name of Anmitsu-hime, which means "Bean paste princess." (very weird...) In 1984, with her 9th single, she produced her first number one out of many and also starred on the Kouhaku program. In the late 80s she began acting in movies and her singing career slipped a little while she focused on them. However, in 1991 she released her best selling single to date "Anata ni aete yokatta" also none of her singles have ever been over the 100th spot on the Oricon charts. She continued to focus on her acting career in films and dramas, and in 1998, became a rather renown actress in the film industry, from winning an award in the movie "Odoru daisousasen." In 2006 she starred in a remake of Sailor fuku to kikanjuu. As far as I'm concerned she's not married, but in 2006 she was rumored to be involved romantically with Kamenashi Kazuya of the group KAT-TUN, who is actually half her age. The last single she released was in 1999, and since then she has become more of an actress than a singer, but fame is fame anyway you spin it pretty much. But we're happy to have Kyon-kyon anyway we can, as a cutesy idol, or a sophisticated actress, it's still her. Some of Kyouko's most famous singles are "Meikyuu no Androla", "Nantettatte Idol", "Mizu no Rouge", and "Anata ni aete yokatta."
