Okamoto Maiko was born on Spetember 3, 1970. Her first attempts at stardom began when she was a child with acting. She participated in a few shows such as "Sunnyside 7", and "Morning Salad" which the musician Saijou Hideki hosted every Saturday morning. When she became a teenager she ventured into the music scene. She was signed to Victor Entertainment (same company as Nakamori Akina and Oginome Youko) and debuted in 1984 when she was only 13! (Most idols are in the range of 16-18 when they debut...) She gained some slight fame when she released her first single "Mishiranu kuni no Tripper" for the anime Mahou no Yousei Pelsia/Magical Fairy Pelsia. After that though she didn't get very far, I guess her great voice and good looks weren't enough for the idol scene unfortunately. She had a very strong voice for being rather young when many other idols take years to develop their voices. Altogether Maiko made 7 singles, some commercials, and won a few rookie awards for her songs then disappeared from the idol world to return to acting. She acted in a small movie then decided to retire after her many unsuccessful attempts at fame. Now, she is a mother and has her own family. Look her up on youtube, I'm sure you won't be disappointed, you'll probably wonder the same things I do "Why didn't she make it?" Some of the shining examples out of her singles are: "Mishiranu kuni no Tripper", "Fanletter", "11gatsu no Sophia", and "Natsuo no koibito Natsuko."

I love Maiko, she is one of my favorite idols from the 80's if not my favorite!! I don't get why she didn't make it too.
